Please share some interesting stories about today…

Today in science we got to deploy the Niskin bottle. I got to tie the rope to the boat and then it took us a few tries to get the niskin bottle to close. Then we pulled it up a bit and let some of the water out, but then I was scared that we let out to much and there wasn’t any water left. But there was plenty of water and we got a full sample.

Any favorite wildlife sightings, quotes, games to share?

We played the thumb game and it was really fun: someone counts 1,2,3, they say any number; right when that person says their number the others choose to put up their thumbs or not and the person counting is trying to guess the amount of thumbs that are going to be put up when they choose the number they are going to say after 1,2,3.

Describe the anchorage or moorage where Carlyn is right now:

We are at Camp Four Winds, the owners of the boat. We are at a place where there’s a tiny dock that we cannot dock on and we are anchored. There are also 2 grassy areas where wind watch is camping. And there are lots of rocks on the shore, BIG rocks.

Today’s weather…

Cloudy and cold with NO blue in the sky and we were forced to wear our foulie gear and it didn’t even rain!! The crew just wanted to ensure that we would be dry and warm and they say it takes a lot of time to get us all in and out of our gear while on the boat.

Describe highlights from today’s science and sailing watches:

In sailing we learned how to use the lines on the wenches and some boat parts. In science we did the niskin bottle thing; and we also used the plankton net to catch zooplankton

Any questions, concerns, or expectations for tomorrow?

I hope we get to go on land.
