The Bush School, Day 3, May 2015
Trip Day: Day 3
Location: Jones Island, WA
School/Grade: The Bush School 6th-8th
Please share some interesting stories about today…
Today we saw some interesting wildlife, like deer, seals, and sea lions.
Also, as we were sailing, we were caught in mixed currents, so it looked as if a buoy was drifting past an island while we were the ones who actually moving.
Any favorite wildlife sightings, quotes, games to share?
We played song wars, where a staff member picked a word and the two teams would have to think of as many songs as they could with the word in the lyrics, and the teams would alternate until a team could not come up with another song.
Describe the anchorage or moorage where Carlyn is right now:
We are in a small bay with trees surrounding the edges. Most of the edges are rock, but there is a small beach, too. The Carlyn is anchored in the relative middle of the bay.
Today’s weather was sunny, with a few clouds in the sky. A breeze picked up as we started sailing and kept us cool.
Describe highlights from today’s science and sailing watches:
In science we took more plankton samples and analyzed the water samples for copper content. In sailing we practiced raising the sails.
Any questions, concerns, or expectations for tomorrow?
In science I hope we will take more samples and learn more about water and the copper.
In sailing I hope we develop more confidence in each other and we can strengthen our navigation skills.
