Open Window School, Day 4, April 2015

Trip Day: Day 4

Location: Spencer Spit, Lopez Isl

Name(s): Lucy, Stella

School/Grade: Open Window School/6th

Do you have any interesting stories about today….

Today we (wind watch) set all 3 sails, which was cool. Stella also steered the boat and got the boat to go faster than six knots. All the watches wrapped up their science experiments and gave a short presentation of their data analysis.

Any favorite wildlife sightings, quotes, games to share?

We saw some seals and many birds of prey. Many people loved the word daisy. And we learned the game “song wars;” it was a lot of fun.

Describe the anchorage or moorage where Carlyn is right now:

We are anchored off the shore of Spencer Spit on Lopez Island.

Today’s weather:

It was sunny and gusty. It was great for sailing!!! 

Describe highlights from today’s science and sailing watches:

We wrapped up science today. The watches did their last deployments, then analyzed their data and created short presentations on their results. The watches presented on the camp grounds of Spencer Spit. The wind watch set all the sails for the first time on the Carlyn! We picked up all the skills we need to know for tomorrows challenge day. The watches are all prepared and stoked for tomorrow!!!!!! (The crew said Wind watch had the best sail set evolution of the entire trip!)

Do you have any questions, concerns, or expectations for tomorrow?

How will we establish roles for challenge day?
What is the estimated time for arrival at the dock in Anacortes?
During challenge day will we be able to switch out roles during the day?
