Open Enrollment Day 2

Trip Day: Day 2

Location: Vashon Island

Name(s): Open Enrollment

School/Grade: 6-9th grades

It was another great day on the water as the students
and crew made there way around the south end of Vashon Island and up Colvos Passage over the course of the day.

The students collected water samples at several points during the journey to test their theory about the relationship between plankton and pH. There was considerable intrigue in looking into the microscopes to learn about the plankton community at this time of year.

The boat sailed into the Blake Island marina in the late afternoon and the students and crew spent the night ashore. The evening included a silent hike along the trails of the island as the shadows become longer. The evening camp fire led to rousing game of song wars and eventually s’mores.

Tomorrow will bring the sailing challenge in which the students will have the opportunity to use all their newfound skills to navigate and sail the boat back to Elliot Bay marina.
