School/Grade: 7th and 8th

The students were ready for their adventure by the time they made it to the Cap Sante marina in Anacortes. There was talk of a fair breeze and some sun in their eyes as they found the life jackets and loaded the ship with their gear.

Even the galley staff had things looking good for the trip knowing a happy tummy makes for a happy trip.

The first day was spent learning the sailing and science terms for surviving on the ship, and practicing their hands at operating winches and setting sails.

The students also spent some time framing their science question and collecting and analyzing water sampling along the way.

By mid-afternoon they found themselves headed north between Lummi and Orcas Islands.
