Trip Day: Day 1

Location: Blake Island

Name(s): Amelia, Francesca, Chloe

School/Grade: Catherine Blaine, 8th

Do you have any interesting stories about today….

There was very bad weather sailing to Blake Island. We got to Blake Island early and the weather got better and the sun came out.

Any favorite wildlife sightings, quotes, games to share?

“If a boat floats why don’t planes sink” …Cooper Sankey

Describe the anchorage or moorage where Carlyn is right now:

Carlyn is located at Blake Island on a dock with a big cabin next door with native paintings. There are also many geese and deer.

Today’s weather:

Very grey and rainy plus lots of wind to top it off! But as the day goes on the sun comes out and the rain disappears. No sights of icebergs or Leonardo DeCaprio.

Describe highlights from today’s science and sailing watches:

The highlights from todays science and sailing watches were we collected and observed under microscopes plankton. We also learned on land and on the boat how to raise sails and coil a rope and how to operate a winch properly.

Do you have any questions, concerns, or expectations for tomorrow?

We’re concerned that the weather will not clear up and that we won’t be able to see the other group (Wind Watchers) as much as we were hoping/expecting.

We are ready to do more research and hopefully learn new things.
