Salish Sea Expeditions Awarded $27,500 at SVP Fast Pitch Finals

On October 7, after advancing through a selection process that considered nearly 100 applicants, Salish Sea Expeditions Executive Director Seth Muir gave a 5-minute pitch alongside 28 semi-finalists to SVP Fast Pitch judges. Decked out in foulweather gear, Seth shared insights on the success of Salish’s STEM-focused programs and the vision for expanding the number of students we serve, with the goal of reaching every middle and high school student in Washington State. The stakes: the chance to present as part of the 5th Annual Innovator Expo and the potential to win funding to support the idea pitched at the event.
A dozen judges deliberated. Many worthy ideas were considered. The result?
Salish Sea Expeditions will advance to the finals! Seth will be bringing the Salish story to the big stage at McCaw Hall on October 27, along with 13 other innovative organizations. Winners will be selected in the categories of best established nonprofit, best startup nonprofit and best for-profit pitches. There is also a separate youth competition for high school and college students.
Finalists will pitch to a panel of eminent judges and impact investors for the opportunity to win a portion of $375,000 in grants and investments. The audience will have the opportunity to vote and pick who receives thousands of dollars in Audience Choice awards. In its first four years, SVP Fast Pitch has connected social impact entrepreneurs with over $1.2 million in investments and grants.
