Expedition Planning
Some steps to help you prepare for your Salish expedition.
* First things first:
- Submit a Reservation Request form for your spring or fall expedition
* After receiving confirmation of your trip date and location:
- Contact the Salish office with any questions or concerns
- Submit your $500/day deposit and contract to secure your trip dates and location
- Begin fundraising efforts
* 3 months before your trip:
- Schedule a meeting with parents to answer questions (Salish staff can assist if you need)
- Submit your first payment
- Arrange for transportation to and from the dock
- Begin to prepare your students by discussing academic concepts that will be addressed on the expedition, watching current events & outlining participation and behavior expectations.
- Complete the Group Information Form and submit to the Salish office via fax or mail
- Carefully consider who you would like to act as adult chaperones, if you choose to bring any
* 2 months before your trip:
- Divide your students into Watch Groups and submit the Watch Group form to Salish
- Complete and submit your Activity Planning Selection sheet
- Select Chaperones, if applicable, and share the Chaperone Expecations sheet with them
- Submit second payment to Salish office
- Schedule Expedition Preparation Visits to your classroom.
- Copy and distribute “What to Bring” list
* 1 month before your trip:
- Have students complete meal planning worksheets and submit to the Salish office
- Copy, distribute, collect, and return TWO COPIES of your students’ hold harmless forms to the Salish office. (1 copy will be kept in the Salish office, 1 on the boat)
- Submit the final payment
- Ensure that Hold Harmless and Meal Planning sheets have been returned to the Salish office
- Double check your transportation arrangements
* The day of your trip:
- Meet the Program Coordinator at the dock with your students and chaperones at 9:00 am
