Salish has a staff of five administrative employees, as well as 10-12 program staff employed during the spring and fall programs seasons.

Stephen
Executive Director Stephen Streufert
Stephen joined Salish in April of 2005 with a commitment to creating outstanding educational expeditions.  His 20 years of experience in program and instructional leadership fuels his belief in the power of learning through shared adventure.  His professional history includes leadership roles at the North Carolina Outward Bound School, National Outdoor Leadership School and numerous other adventure-based, environmental, and marine education organizations.  Stephen has B.A. in Biology from Luther College in Iowa and an M.S. in Education Leadership from Minnesota State University.  Most recently before joining Salish, Stephen was the Vice President of Sales for Alpine Towers International.  He also served as Board President for a non-profit youth mentoring agency during his tenure at Alpine Towers.

Jenny MEducation Director, Jenny McColloch                             
Jenny joined the Salish team in the fall of 2006 and is responsible for overseeing onboard programs on the Carlyn. Previously a Marine Science Educator at Salish, Jenny has experience in a variety of marine ecosystems and a passion for field-based science education. She holds a BS and MS in Earth Systems from Stanford University, where she worked as program staff prior to her time at Salish. A life-long boater and outdoor adventurer, Jenny believes there is immense value of providing children with hands-on educational opportunities. Jenny has extensive experience working with youth in a residential outdoors setting, working for many years as a unit counselor, staff supervisor, and trip leader for Camp Nor’wester in the San Juan Islands.

Lorrie KEDirector of Outreach and Operations
Lorrie Kalmbach-Ehlers
Lorrie joined the Salish Sea Expeditions team in 2002.  Lorrie holds a B.S. degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Washington.  She has conducted research for the Department of Defense and co-produced a publication in Northwest Naturalist outlining the survey's  findings.  Lorrie has enjoyed giving numerous presentations on amphibians and reptiles to local school children.  In addition, she has been employed and involved voluntarily with many non-profit organizations including the Kitsap Humane Society, Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue, and Kitsap Animal Rescue Team.   She is also the co-founder and current board president of BullsEye Dog Rescue, a non profit organization dedicated to bull breed dog education, outreach and rescue.  Lorrie brings a flair for organization and innovative ideas,  for which she has received employee recognition awards in the past.

Katy MBusiness and Communication Director, Katy Mathias
Katy Mathias joined the Salish staff in January, 2008, having previously served on the Salish Board for four years, most recently as Board President. As Business and Communication Director, Katy oversees all aspects of financial management and manages communication efforts with foundations and the media. Katy has over 15 years of experience in management and finance, most recently as the Business Manager at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle. Katy’s B.A. in Political Science is from Tufts University; she also earned a Masters in Public and Private Management from the Yale University School of Management. Katy is an avid baker and enjoys thinking up new ways to cook with chocolate. She also enjoys sailing and hopes some day to master docking.

MollieProgram Coordinator, Mollie Caka
Mollie joined the Salish Sea Expeditions team in the spring of 2007 as a Marine Science Educator and has since joined us full-time as Program Coordinator. Mollie supervises all aspects of on-board program operations, including staff and student management, instruction, and logistics. A Seattle native, Mollie has been exploring the Puget Sound area as a student, instructor, and adventurer for many years. She holds a BS in Marine Science from Evergreen State College, and was a student with the University of Washington Masters in Teaching program. Mollie has extensive experience in teaching science, both in the field and in the classroom, and has shared her passion for learning with students from Seattle to China. She has served as an outdoor-educator in a variety of settings, leading field programs for the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, and leadership trips for the Metrocenter YMCA on Orcas Island. Mollie exhibits an absolutely infectious enthusiasm for everything she does, and has a knack for making everyone around her as excited as she is about doing field-science on Puget Sound.

Karen WAdministrative Assistant, Karen Withers
Karen joined the Salish Sea Expeditions’ team in 2007 excited to assist Salish it’s office operations.  With over 14 years of experience with Girl Scouts, Karen brings a wealth of skills to the team.  Her Girl Scout experiences include being a troop leader, outdoor educator, adult trainer, regional camp director, and a variety of other leadership and team member positions.  Karen also has 10 years of experience in the Banking and Trust industries as an Administrative Assistant working for US Bank, Washington Mutual Savings, and Fiduciary Trust Services.  Karen attended undergraduate studies at Whitworth College, Eastern Washington University and Olympic college.
